Ignore blanks or zeros

Trying to create formula to calculate gains or losses in quarterly assessment tests, but need to ignore blanks when there is no student data. Current formula results in negative number with blank cells.

You can put "if", let say =if(A2)=0,"",sum(a2:a3).
