    I don't believe this is possible in Excel.

    I assume you want large banner type wording with a shadow to use on a spreadsheet? If so, use excel's Wordart to create two identical sets of wording. Fill colour one set and place the unfilled (or differently coloured) set over the top, but leaving the wording beneath showing slightly. You can adjust the sizes until it looks right. To find Wordart, right click anywhere on the top task bar and tick Wordart on the drop down menu.
