Pivot Table Problem

I have just recently begun using pivot tables in Excel. One thing I am attempting to do is to take a single column (titled "Customers") and list its contents (customers) on a table along with the number of times each is listed. I have done this successfully excepting one thing. For some reason, several of my customers are listed twice or three times. For example, customer "Home Depot" will show up with a quantity of 157 and directly underneath it, "Home Depot" is listed again with a quantity of 2. I would like "Home Depot" to be listed one time with a quantity of 159. Does anyone have a solution for me? Thanks.

You will probably find that the two odd "home depot" items are actually listed in your spreadsheet as "home depot ", ie., with a space after the word "depot". therefore even though you cannot readily see that space, XL knows it's there and treats it as a seperate item accordingly. If it's not a space after the word you will probably find some slight difference in the home depot column.

I just tried cutting and pasting again so that the customer names would be exactly identical. I also formatted the whole sheet uniformly and it seems to have worked. Thanks for the help.
