    Addition with text criteria

I have a list of around 3000 customers, each with around 100-105 costs against them. i want to add the entire column of cost, sorting according to customer. I know I can use an IFSUM criteria but as far as i can see i would have to type out all customer names seperately. Is there a way to sort all that? I guess the criteria would have to be "if text is equal to itself then sum". Please help i have a deadling and will lose my mind if i do it manually

Hi, Tilly. You didn't explain the layout of your data. However, if I assume the customer names are in one column and the amounts for each are in another, you can use Data>Subtotals to get a total for each customer. Each column is required to have cell at the top with a 'label' describing the column, e.g. Name, Amount, Date, etc.

Highlight the range you want to work with and select Data>Subtotals from the main menu. In the pop up window, select 'Name' in the 'At each change in:' drop down, 'Use function:' Sum and choose 'Amount' in 'Add subtotal to:'.

Make sure Replace... and Summary below... are checked.

click OK and you will have totals for each customer!
