Can YOU post to the FEEDBACK forum?

I am sure you have, by now, seen Roy Rubin's post regarding the ongoing upgrades to this forum. His closing comment is:

"If you notice anything unusual during this time (such as heavy server load, broken integration), please let us know. It is very helpful to specify a thread name and number as we try to diagnose and improve the system. You can post the comments on the "Feedback" forum."

However, when I try to start a thread in the ExcelTip.com Feedback / Comments / Suggestions forum, I get a message stating:

....you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:

    1. Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
    2. If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.

    -------------------

Can anyone else access the Feedback forum to make a post?

    Hi!

No more luck than you with the Forum feedback.

I have to say that I have not been overly impressed by the recent events, starting with breakdown of half of the link with the MS News Groups. However, I was pleased to see Mr Rubin's message of 9 April: I was beginning to think that we were whistling in the wind.

    Hi Alf, Bruce,

I have to agree with Alf. This forum has been a very big disappointment. After some time has past, Joseph Rubin has finally communicated to the members/users of this forum (thanks in no small part to Bruce). I too was beginning to think that we were whistling in the wind. Let's hope that these improvements take place soon.

    Hi guys

I'm a relative newbie and only been posting since about mid February.

What exactly is the score? If I post an answer to a question posted by a "Guest" am I wasting my time? I recently spent quite a bit of time putting together an answer for a question posted by JulieD (Guest). Should I have just washed my hair instead...?!?

    Hi!

There seems to be a problem getting Forum posts out on to the MS user groups.

So, as you say, a guest will be visible to you, but your reply will not be visible to the guest at the moment. Equally, if you start a thread in the Forum, the outside world won't know. If that sounds a bit like a typical VB scope issue: well, yes, it seems to be behaving just like that.

This means, of course, that posters on the Forum will not be noticed by the Titans of the Excel world who work outside this forum. That is rough on posters: they should have the best. I couldn't at the moment advise anyone to post in this forum as their only avenue for help.

It has taken quite a while for any acknowledgement of the problem from "management". A pity. Feels a bit like mushroom management (keep them in the dark and throw in a bit of bullshit from time to time). Even the "Announcement" is less than fulsome.

However, I am prepared to give them a chance - for ow.

Meanwhile, if I see a Guest with a problem I can help with (or, worse, who is being misled), I won't resist the temptation to go to the other (less congenial) forums and put my two-penn'orth in there.

I await progress, but I'm not holding my breath...

Let me reiterate, I have been in contact with both Roy Rubin, who manages this site and Joseph Rubin, owner of the site. They both assure me they are well aware of the problem and are working on the solution(s).

I am not here to defend them, but only to share with you the information I have obtained (from said communications). Certainly, the more voices they hear, the more they will, hopefully, understand and appreciate the frustration we, the frequent contributers, are having. This may result in more energy and urgency placed on these issues.

I, too, often go directly to the Microsoft Office Discussion Groups site if I find a post I feel compelled to respond to.

One can only imagine the power of this site when (if?) they get this working as planned!

Until then, dominicb, I hope you have lots of shampoo....
