    File does not open correctly

In the past two weeks, I have had the following happen twice:

When loading [opening] my main file [VETcalc] into Excel, everything appears to be working towards that process. At the bottom of the screen there is a message
that the file is opening. Within a few seconds, a workbook opens and at the top left, it states that it is Book1, not the file that I opened. When I attemp to open again, an error msg opens, stating that my [VETcalc File] is already open.

When I click on the Windows Icon, Book1 is the only file that is open and there
is no sign of my VETcalc File.

Is there a way to resolve this problem??

    Thanks,

    Bob

It is hard to say exactly what is causing this, but I think most likely there is a second file that Excel sees as having this name (probably the working file Excel creates). Maybe you had a crash while working on this book and the working file didn't get properly deleted.

In any event, what method are you using for opening the 'VETcalc' file? Are you opening Excel and using the File>Open command, or maybe the Most Recently Used file list?

I would try opening the file directly from Windows Explorer. Find the file and double click to open. This way, you know you are attempting to open the correct file. Does is open correctly?

If not, your file may be corrupted. I hope you have a backup!

    Good Luck

    Bruce, thank you.

I have tried both ways to open the file, from within Excel and from my desktop.
    Either way, same result.

    Thanks for the advice.

If we assume you don't have this issue with any other file, we can safely assume the problem is the VETcalc file.

    Sorry.

    Did you find a backup?

There are only TWO rules to computing:

Rule #1> ALWAYS have a backup of any important file!

    Rule #2> See rule #1

    Back Up

I have a backup that is 3 days old, not a total disaster.
