I did look in Excel help, MS TechNet and the forum before I posted this, if I have over looked it then I time I change my specs 

Need a little help finding out if it is at all possible to change a default setting within Excel, Currently I use File Open then using the drop down box for " Files of type " drop down to all files *.* then open my file which does not have an .xls file extension, trivial matter but it’s an extra step, I would like to put an end to this, therefore I would like to know if it is at all possible to change this, thus making my default file view all types instead of just looking for .xls extensions.

This needs to work by default when ever I open excel.
