External query where parameter is a sheet cell

I want to run an SQL to an external database source where the parameter of
the query is specified in a sheet cell. For example:
select amount
from mynumbers
where id=C5

where C5 is a sheet cell and has the id value to index.

Is this possible? What's the syntax?
