    Password Protect

I am trying to figure out how to password protect data. Basically, I want on e user(myself) to be able to change data in the worksheet and no on else. However, I do want the other users to be able to view the worksheet, but not make any changes. Is there a way to do this? I tried to use the allow users to edit range, but I could not seem to get it to work. Any help would be appreaciated.

    Thanks

    Good evening Jennifer

It depends exactly what you want to do. If you want to prevent a user from changing any part of a workbook and have XL 2002 onwards (I don't think this facility is available in Excel 2000), you can save a file requiring a password to open with read only access and a password with read-write access - but that's the whole file, not a portion of it.

You could also protect the file with the Tools > Protection > Protect Sheet facility and specify a password when prompted. If there are any cells which are not to be protected, then highlight the range, press ctrl + 1 and go to protection and uncheck the locked box before invoking the protection.

As always, bear in mind that Excel's protection is not as secure as it might be - particularly the protect sheet function above which can be cracked very easily.
