    Personal.xls not automatically loading

    Hi guys,

I am in need of some help. I have a file called personal.xls that has my macros in it.

This file is stored in two places:
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\XLStart
    C:\Documents and Settings\stang\Application Data\Microsoft\Excel\XLSTART

For some reason, excel stopped auto loading the personal.xls file and now every time that I want to use my macros I have to open the personal.xls file from one of the above mentioned folders. Do any of you know how to get the personal.xls file to automatically load every time that excel is started???

    Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Are you sure you are logged in as "stang"? If you are not, Excel will be looking at: C:\Documents and Settings\YOURLOGINNAMEHERE\Application Data\Microsoft\Excel\XLSTART not at :

    C:\Documents and Settings\stang\Application Data\Microsoft\Excel\XLSTART

    Good Luck

Yes I am logged in as stang on my machine. Is there a way to reset excel or something so I can start from scratch or at least reset excel so it will start using the default personal.xls? Thanks.

    More things to check:

Is there a setting in Tools>Options>General>Alternate start-up folder? If so, move your personal.xls file there (or remove the alternate start up folder)

From Dave Peterson: "xl2002+ have the abililty to quarantine what it thinks are bad workbooks. They can keep track of them so that it doesn't even try to open them. If you look under Help|About MS Excel, you'll see a button called: "Disabled
Items...". Check under there to see if it's marked not to open. You can enable it there, too. If the workbook is really bad, you'll want to put your backup copy in XLStart."

Currently that field is blank in the options menu, should I specify the folder where my personal.xls file is located in there?

My guess is Dave Peterson's tip. First, check the HELP>About>Disabled Items and see if it is listed there. I hope you have a backup!

You didn't list your operating system or version of Excel. But I'm guessing XP or 2000. If your file is where you say it is, Excel will open it (if it can).

I have it fixed for now. I think it has something to do with my network at work. I had to put my personal.xls file on a network shared folder. The default folder in excel was a network folder, so I guess the default startup folder also had to be on the network drive for it to be able to find the personal.xls file.
