    Why does excel divide numbers I type by 10 after I hit return?

    Try this: Go to Tools-->Options, Edit tab. Uncheck the Fixed Decimal box.

    Thank you, it worked! Pusing my luck: how do I prevent excel from turning
    "(x)" into "-x" automatically?
