    Excel will not load personal.xls

I have written macros for years, storing them in personal.xls.

Suddenly, after a powerglitch yesterday just as Excel (2002 SP3) was
loading, it will no longer load personal.xls.

Other files in the XLStart directory load as expected.
If I rename the personal.xls to a different filename, then it will load
fine, and the macros inside also behave just fine.
If I create a new macro to be saved in personal.xls, save it, and close
Excel, the new personal.xls will not load when Excel restarts.

    What happened?

    TIA,

    Ken

xl2002+ have the abililty to quarantine what it thinks are bad workbooks.

They can keep track of them so that it doesn't even try to open them.

If you look under Help|About MS Excel, you'll see a button called: "Disabled
    Items...".

Check under there to see if it's marked not to open. You can enable it there,
    too.

If the workbook is really bad, you'll want to put your backup copy in XLStart.

Thanks, Dave. Sorry about the duplicate posts; I am not a frequent user
    of
    user groups--I guess it shows.

I had already tried the new personal.xls idea, it did not work. I even
removed the personal.xls from the XLStart, let Excel create a new one, and
    even that would not reload.

The quarantined files idea was a great one--and THERE IT WAS!!!!! Not
    once,
    but twice even.

I'm guessing it was some covert action on the part of Homeland Security,
    but
I'll never be able to prove it ;-)

    Thanks for your excellent help.
