    Record a macro when you select your cell
    edit|copy
    then select the other range
    edit|paste special|formats

    And you'll see the code.

    IMHO,

    Use the "Format Painter".

    You can also *double click* the icon, so as not to lose the copied format
    between clicks on assorted cells and/or ranges.
