why does excel 2003 freeze when save as is clicked

It shouldn't freeze. You may need to uninstall and reinstall from
your Office CD.

Right-click on the My Computer icon on the Windows desktop,
left-click on Disconnect Network Drive, and disconnect any mapped
drives that are not currently available.
