do your links have the path to the file, the file name and the sheet name? e.g.:

    =IF('C:\Documents and Settings\defaultuser\My Documents\My eBooks\[Book4.xls]Sheet1'!$C39<>"",'C:\Documents and Settings\defaultuser\My Documents\My eBooks\[Book4.xls]Sheet1'!$C39,"")

the formula looks something like that:
    =SUMME('c:\Vertrieb Sales\500-600 \580 Planung und Berichtswesen\Umsatz-_ BE-_Anzahlungsplanung\per. Kostenplanung\GJ0405\082005\[per. kostenplanung.xls]#Rechnungen PjM u.a.'!$H$5:'c:\Vertrieb Sales\500-600 \580 Planung und Berichtswesen\Umsatz-_ BE-_Anzahlungsplanung\per. Kostenplanung\GJ0405\082005\[per. kostenplanung.xls]#Rechnungen PjM u.a.'!J5)
