# if test using true/false or yes/no

1. ## if test using true/false or yes/no

What formula would I use to say: [M2] = [H2] if [K2=yes], [M2] = [J2] if
[K2=no], when cells [M2], [H2], and [J2] are dollar amounts, and [K2] is
actually the word "yes" or "no"? Register To Reply

Hi,

If K2 always contains either "yes" or "no" (i.e., never empty), enter the
following formula in M2

=IF(K2="yes",H2,J2)

If K2 can also be empty at times and if you do not want to have any answer
in K2 in such a situation, use the formula,

=IF(K2="yes",H2,IF(K2="no",J2,""))

In either case, format M2 to 'currency'.
