Updating a cell with missing data to match our system data.

I am currently using Excel on Windows 2010. I have two rows of data I need cell one to be updated to the information in cell two based on a 6 character number in cell one.

    Example of my issue:

    Cell one has FEB109

Cell two has mobile-1842-FEB109 or 1234-FEB109-w67 or WU26-123-FEB109.

How would I merge the two together so that I can get cell one to represent the data in cell two?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi Lil_knighty. Welcome to the forum.

    Your request is not clear.
How would I merge the two together so that I can get cell one to represent the data in cell two?
Please show us an example of what you mean by this.

If it wasn't for the "merge" part I would suggest VLOOKUP. Something like this.

I have a license number and I need to change that license number into the matching license number that has additional data in order for the data to match the data in my system.

The example shows how the license numbers are formed in our system as we have additional data, I need to change the license based on column with our system data.

    Example:

    License FEB109
Our Database could have FEB109-WU198-123 or FEB109-WUB-123 or WUB-123-FEB109.

How do i merger the data FEB109 into WUB-123-FEB109 etc.

Attach a sample workbook (not a picture or pasted copy). Make sure there is just enough data to demonstrate your need. Include a BEFORE sheet and an AFTER sheet in the workbook if needed to show the process you're trying to complete or automate. Make sure your desired results are shown, mock them up manually if necessary.

    Remember to desensitize the data.

Click on GO ADVANCED and then scroll down to Manage Attachments to open the upload window.

    Still not clear.

What does "merger the data FEB109 into WUB-123-FEB109 etc." mean. What would those look like?

Please type them out and post.

License Provided | System Data | Result am I looking for
    FEB109 | WUD-FEB109-123 | WUD-FEB109-123

I have a list of FEB109 and I need that license to be changed to WUD-FEB109-123 for around 10 different columns.

    OK
    Let's try this.

With System data in column D and the FEB109 in cell A2 this formula in B2.

If this doesn't do what you want we will need an actual Excel workbook upload as (Alan has suggested) that is representative of the real data including layout.
