    Index/Match Solution?

    Looking at other posts, I keeping thinking I'm coming close to a solution but can't seem to figure it out.

    I have a range of values, say: A2:J2
    and
    I have corresponding text labels for these values: A1:J1

    I want to identify the smallest value ( MIN(A2:J2) ) and populate another cell (say A4) with the corresponding text label that identifies the smallest value (i.e. if MIN(A2:J2) is the value in cell E2, then I want cell A4 to contain the text value of E1)

    Iím sure Iíve circled around the solution a few times, any help will be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    --Robert-->

    Re: Index/Match Solution?

    One way, assuming no ties* in the min. values within A2:J2

    Placed in A4:
    =INDEX(A1:J1,MATCH(MIN(A2:J2),A2:J2,0))

    will retrieve the label within A1:J1 corresponding
    to the min. value within A2:J2

    *If there are any ties, only the leftmost label will be retrieved
