Excel workbook opens a new workbook

    Hi all,

I tried asking this question on a different forum and didn't get a reply and am hoping someone here can help me. Here recently I have noticed that when I open a workbook named (Monthly), another blank workbook (Book1) opens also, This happens on any of the files I open, what can I do to stop this second blank workbook from opening. I don't see anything in the Options menu that would turn it off.

    Thanks,

    Larry

If you have a file in your XLStart folder called book.xlt, Excel
will create a new file when you start Excel.

    Hi Chip,

I will check to see if there is a file in it. Thanks for replying.

    Hi Chip,

Nothing in the XLStart. There is a file EXCEL11.xlb outside of the folder. Looking at another computer I noticed that it does not have .xlb at the end of Excel. Could this be the problem?

    Thanks,

    Larry
