Question Origin Of a Spreadsheet-is it possible to track through the excel document?

    Hi

Does ANYONE know if it is at all possible to find out the origin of a spreadsheet? By this i mean, is it possible to track through the excel document and find out who created it? Finding out the Computer name on which the document was created or an IP address or any clue on who or what PC created a document?

If anyone knows anything about finding this out could you please let me know and explain how to do it.

    Thanks

    Go to File|Properties.

Doesn't always provide useful information. Where I work, which I'll
call XYZ Corp., the automated software install process gives *every*
user the username XYZ User. That would narrow it down to the company
that produced a spreadsheet as long as users play nice.

However, not all users play nice. Anyone with a hex editor can wipe out
any identifying information in the .xls file itself. Copy it onto blank
media, and there'd be no way to tell where it came from.

Or you can start with a file that somebody else created, then delete
everything in it and build it up yourself - the originator details and
creation date will be taken from the original file.
