I can only view a spreadsheet in Maximised size - when I minise it, it
disappears off the screen. I can't work out how to set the size of the
minimsed sheet because I can't click and drag the corner of the spreadsheet.

I would bet that you're not minimizing the worksheet. I'm betting that you're
resizing it to be less than maximized.
If you do
Window|Arrange|tiled
Then resize, does that help?
If you meant that you're working with the application window--not the sheet
window within excel, and you make it less than maximized (still not
minimized)...
Try closing all applications except excel (it'll make it a bit easier)
rightclick on an empty spot on the windows taskbar (usually at the bottom)
select cascade windows
Then resize anyway you want.

I just had the same problem and finally figured it out:
Go to View then click on new window. Your worksheet should reappear!!!

I found this via google today (11/25/13) despite the fact that it's 7 years old. That really helped! Thank you very much. It was momentarily a disaster.
Just wanted to say thanks for the response that was 7 years old. I had this problem in Excel 2013 today, and it solved my problem.
Thanks!
and in 2021 8 years later Thanks MichelleEng!
