Automatic date format

Hello All,

How do enter "1-2" or "5/8" into a cell without excel turning my entry into
a date?

Preformat the cell(s) as text (Format>Cells...>Number>Text) or prefix with a
single apostophe ('), this will not show but will stop it converting
