Cell format - how to disable auto date

I want the cell to be "3 - 5" but it auto changes it to "5-Mar".

How do I stop that from happening besides using '3-5 ?

Only way is to either precede each entry with an apostrophe ' (it's not
visible in the cell) or to pre-format as text

Preformat the cell as Text, then type your entry.
