How do I stop Excel from turning November 2006 into Nov-06?

Excel is driving me mad. How can I permanently turn off the function which
converts dates entered as November 2006 to Nov-06?

Format column as mmmm aaaa

Select the cell -> Format-> cells->date and then choose whatever you like.
