variable date in XIRR function possible?

The XIRR function has a format of XIRR(values, dates, 0.1). I'd like to write the formula so that it refers to start and end dates specified in two user-entry cells so that only values and dates within the date range are included in the XIRR output.

This can easily be done by manually changing the included values and dates ranges but this is quite tedious. Is there a way to match the dates provided in two user cells across the entire date range to identify the desired value and date ranges without editing the XIRR formula?

I wonder if variable formulas are more the province of MS Access. I'm open to all suggestions.
