Sharing 2010 file version with 2003

I have a workbook developed in 2010 xlsm format and several clients with 2003. When passing the workbook back and forth, I assume merely saving the file in the xls version prior to sending will accomplish the compatablility issue? Or is there another format type that might be better to accomidate both versions?

    Thanks for any thoughts.

If you need to work with 2003 from a 2010 file, then best you develop the workbook in 2003.
There are many things that are radically different from 2007 onwards, the file usually opens, but the content can often be totally unusable.

Saving as an .xls cures little or nothing.

Thanks, that’s scary. If I converted the whole project from 2010 to 03, what are some of the functionality that might be lost? I can attach the file but its 10 MB. I think the only thing I can think of in the file would be an IF statement that has 7 nested.

I run some maintenance macros occasionally but nothing that the clients use.
    Thanks

The most common issues are probably IFERROR(), COUNTIFS(), & SUMIFS(). all will fail in 2003.

If you have more than 7 nested IFS(), I suggest you try other functions such as CHOOSE(), LOOKUP(), etc, regardless of what version you are using.

Another common problem is lost data, especially in columns, 2003 only has 256 up to Column IV.

Calculations referring to whole columns often can't be handled by 2003, especially SUMPRODUCT().

And as for C/F, forget it!!!

    There are also VBa issues!!!

    Need I go on? ...

Try googling "Excel 2003 to 2010 conversion issues" and take your pick.

Thank you, that puts alot in perspective. I will probably revert back to 2003.
