    date input

I am just trying to be lazy w/o typing the /'s. I am doing statement ledger and require to input different date of transactions and there are a lot of transactions. Why is it when I type today's date 091006 it comes up 2/28/2149? I set the Format Cells to Category "Date" Type "mdyyyy". What I'm I doing wrong? Is there no way excel can recognized 091006 for 09/10/2006?

    Hi,

    The attached links should help

If you enter a helper column this formula should work otherwise you will need VBA code

    =DATE(RIGHT(A1,4),LEFT(A1,IF(LEN(A1) = 8,2,1)),LEFT(RIGHT(A1,6),2))

    date entry

Thanks VBA Noob. ##"/"##"/"#### was a lot easier. But I choose ##"/"##"/"##. I'd tried the others but can't get it to work or doesn't applied to what I was doing. Thanks again.
