    Exclamation Absolute Hyperlink Address

    Hello,

I have an excel spreadsheet with hyperlinks to other files on my shared hard drive. When I move this spreadsheet to another person's computer (with all privileges set correctly) and the person tries using a hyperlink, the document is not found. I know this is because of the wonders and horrors of relative addressing. Is there a way around relative addressing? Can't I just say "\\george\folder\file.doc" and be done with it?

    Hi,

"Can't I just say "\\george\folder\file.doc" and be done with it?"

What you mentioned should work just fine. May be you want to check the access rights settimgs of the receipient of the files.

    Let me specify...

And you try this to verify...

Put an excel spreadsheet in a directory along with another file (in the same directory). Make a hyperlink to that other file in the excel spreadsheet. Say the name of the other file is "OtherFile.doc". Then the hyperlink would just be "OtherFile.doc" with no forward slashes or anything. Even if I do type it in as "\\george\myfolder\OtherFile.doc" it will truncate it to "OtherFile.doc". This is part of the problem I am facing.

Thus, when I copy the spreadsheet over to somewhere else, for that matter, ANYWHERE, the hyperlink will be broken because it was looking for a file in the same directory as the spreadsheet called "OtherFile.doc".
