Excel 2003 Linked data returns Cell Reference Display

I am pretty sure I know this is a formatting issue, but I can't remember what the fix is. Excel 2003 (which I just installed) has a slight bug where when you attempt to link to data in another worksheet, you get the cell reference rather than the data.

    Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

    Thanks.

Tools > Options > under View tab uncheck Formulas.

    "view formulas" isn't checked...but thanks...

Thank you, starguy...I'd already checked that and it doesn't do it on every cell so I think it's a formatting issue for either the source data or the cell itself in which the formula is typed. Any other ideas? It's wacky!

cells that you enter formulas in may be formatted as TEXT.
select all cells that you have entered fomulas in and change formatting to GENERAL
(right click > Format cells... > under Number tab select GENERAL from Category list.)

but you need to double click and press Enter in each cell or press F2 then Enter.

    Regards.
