converting data from column to rows

I thought I understood Excel farily well, until I wanted to do this.

I have data that is collected in a column format and I would like to convert it to rows. The data comes in pairs (two columns - about 1000 rows). I have many of these "pairs", but don't mind coverting one pair at a time.

    Can this be done?

    Thanks
    Jw

    Hi jw1,

Bit of a problem converting to rows as there are only 256 cells wide, so you will have to split it into 4 groups and do 250 at a time.
So select the 2 columns (assume A & B) down to 250 rows, then Copy > Paste Special > Transpose into column C. Then repeat this to make four more rows.

thank you so very much for the lighting fast reply.

Silly me, I was to close to the problem to see what was givng me the problem. I forgot all about the number of columns verses the number of rows.

    thanks again

    one extra bit of info

I have found you also have to "paste special" with transpose

or the data goes into x by x

    Yes you can:-

    1. Highlight all the data you want to change.
    2. From the Edit drop down menu 'copy'
    3. From the Edit menu select 'paste special'
    4. Select the 'transpose' box

    Hope this helps !

    Thanks,

    Emma.
