Validation source length

Hi All,

Does anyone know of a way to extend the length of the list source box when validating a cell in excel? It seems to allow a maximum of 255 characters by default but I need to be able to use more than this if poss. I know I could just rererence a range of cells but I am using VBA code to populate the source box and want to avoid this method if possible.

If you have a look in Excel Help, you will find the following comment

Length of cell contents (text) 32,767 characters. Only 1,024 display in a cell; all 32,767 display in the formula bar.

Hi Old Chippy,

That sounds like the limit for a cell length but I'm talking about the length of the source textbox when you select Date / Validation / list. Does anyone have any ideas on this? thanks anyways..
