    protecting worksheets/workbooks

I know about the protection of the sheets or workbooks, but my question is this: I've tried applying that protection to a sheet and yet it deleted the entire contents of the sheet. What i'm looking for is a way to keep certain info, kinda like a form, but have the spots where text goes, be editable so i can remove it.. Is there a way to clear the cells of the "editable" text and leave the structure of the sheets other entries in tact...those entries will never change... Any ideas?

How can protecting the sheet delete the sheet??

This is right out of the help file in excel....

Specify which cells can be changed after a worksheet is protected
To unlock cells so that they can be changed, the worksheet must not be protected. For information about removing protection from a worksheet, click .

Select the cell range you want to unlock.
    How?

On the Format menu, click Cells, and then click the Protection tab.

    Clear the Locked check box.
Note After you protect the worksheet, the cells that you unlocked in this procedure are the only cells that can be changed.

Tip To move between unlocked cells on a protected worksheet, click an unlocked cell, and then press TAB.

make a form on one sheet and enter data that you want to keep permanently and leave the cells blank that you want editable.
after making and formatting a complete form, select cells that you want to be editable and right click on those cells (may be one by one if they are not in an array or range) select Format Cells... and click on Protection tab and uncheck the Locked option.
now protect you worksheet (Tools > Protection > Protect Sheet)

hope this will serve your purpose.

    Regards.
