    Smile Can't figure formula

I was given this to figure out by boss and haven't been able to.

He has a workbook with several spreadsheets.

On 2, I haven't tried this in the others, if you copy a formula from one column to another, the formula adjusts to the new column properly but the total is same from the initial column!

    Exemple

Column A has rows 1 thru 3 and the figures are 2, 2, 2. The total on row 4 is 6.

If I copy this formula to colun B and the numbers on b1 thru 3 are 2, 5, 3 the total should be 10 right?

NO, it copies 6 - the total of the formula I copied from (column A).

Why is this happening? The spreadsheet is not protected from what I can see under Tools/Protection

    Anyone?

    Thanks...

    Hi idowindows,

Are you sure you are copying a formula, not a total value?

    thanks

    Honestly,

I am copying a formula that copies correctly but picks up total from the column it was copied from.

So if you copy A4 with =SUM(A1:A3) to B4 you still get =SUM(A1:A3) or =SUM(B1:B3)?

I get =SUM(B1:B3) but if the total of column A was 10, column B totals 10 even though the formula copied right and the totla for B should be different...

Check the formatting of the cell, just to see if there is no special custom format on it, also check if there are any macro's

    Thanks

    No macros.

Under Format Cells, Protection is checked in but I had alredy unchecked it and it made no difference.

Get this, if I pick a totally blank area of the spreadsheet and enter my own info and formulas, it does the same.

If I open a NEW spreadsheet while I have that workbook open and I start my own figures and formulas, it does that same thing.

Now, if I close EXCEL totally, open it to a blank workbook and start my own figures and formulas, copy formulas, bang! Right on the money...

Formulas adjust and totals reflect proper amounts...

    What do you think?

    Thanks..

    Guess what?

    I got it.

If you go to Tools/Options/Calculation Tab/Calculation should be set to Automatic and it was on Manual

Once I changed that - Voila!

I can copy a formula, it will adjust to where I paste it to AND reflect the correct values....

    Thanks for helping out.
