    Need help: Simple spreadsheet "broke"

I have an odd Excel problem which is really frustrating me.

I use one specific spreadsheet every day at work. I'm a District Manager for a chain of video game stores and I use the spreadsheet to record daily sales performance at multiple stores.

The spreadsheet is quite simple: The top half is my data entry; the lower half imports information from the data entry portion and performs rudimentary arithmetic. You can view the spreadsheet in this Screenshot.

My problem is that the spreadsheet suddenly stopped "working". It has been serving me well for months but just this week it just stopped. I haven't made any changes to the spreadsheet in months so I'm dumbfounded as to what happened.

By "not working" I mean data is no longer being imported from the data entry portion (top half) into the lower portion. For example, cell C20 in the screenshot should import the data keyed into cell C4 (using the basic "=C4" function). That worked last week but suddenly stopped working this week. Additionally, all equations in the lower portion of the spreadsheet are suddenly impotent as well.

In the Screenshot]screenshot you will see one row of data carried over from the "data entry" portion to the lower "calculation" portion. This is the row labled "MVPs" (row 6 and 23 respectively). That is how the spreadsheet is supposed to work. This example is working because I re-entered the "=B6", "=C6", "=D6", etc. into each of row 23's cells. Each cell already had the proper "=B6" function but they didn't work until I re-entered the function. Additionally, simply re-entering the function wasn't enough: the function would only work if I populated row 6 with data prior to typing the "=" function into row 23.

Formulas used in the lower half require the same frustrating scenario as described in the previous paragraph. Essentially, this spreadsheet is broken.

I don't know what is going on. I have tried the spreadsheet on two different computers with the same result. Cell formatting appears to be fine (I thought, perhaps, cells were formatted as text). I'm frustrated and confused. I just need some help.

    Thanks in advance,

    -Camp

    Hi,

Do you mind uploading a zipped copy of your worksheet ...?

hey camp, i post on lcvg rather infrequently...

i think you just have calculations set to manual on the sheet

i'm not in office 2007 but in 2003 it's a simple tools->options, then calculation tab and change to automatic

it actually saves this setting with a worksheet so that if you open this workbook on a new computer this setting will remain persistent with it.

    hope that helps

i didn't actually notice that problem because I had an excel instance running when i opened your zip file and it doesn't change the setting if excel is running. a coworker opened it as their first excel file and saw the calculation thing

    That was it! Thank you.

I knew it was going to be something easy too. I had tunnel vision from staring at the thing for too long and couldn't see outside my blinders. Thanks for adding your perspective.
