Extracting Specific Words from string

Hi Friends,

I need a help from you.

I am an Accountant working in a company. Our accounts are updated in oracle. Then we converted to excel for analysing purpose.

The problem is some information are in one cell. But there is a relationship all the records. I mean there is a pattern.

mobile no - employee no - name of employee - compant name

07******** - 987327 Joe Nee - Apple vs

I want only employee name (Joe Nee)

Please give a suggestion.

Manually i coudn't do because there is 25000 rows records.

Thanks in advance

You can break the string into multiple cells giving you a column of names.

1,Select the column that contains the data

2,click on the data tab>>click text to columns>>click next

3,click on the "other" option in the delimiters list

4,type the symbol that separates the data so in your case " - "

5, click next and then finish

your data at this point should be separated into 4 different columns from which you can choose the list of employee names

Let me know if you have any problems

With something like this, it is always better if you provide a few samples of your data in a workbook. That way, members dont have to guess at what you are working with
To attach a file to your post,
click advanced (next to quick post),
scroll down until you see "manage file",
click that and select "add files" (top right corner).
click "select files" find your file, click "open" click "upload" click 'done" bottom right. click "submit reply"

Once the upload is completed the file name will appear below the input boxes in this window.
You can then close the window to return to the new post screen.
1. Use code tags for VBA.
Your Code
(or use the # button)
2. If your question is resolved, mark it SOLVED using the thread tools
3. Click on the star if you think someone helped you
