adding positive and negative hours in a spreadsheet

I am going crazy trying to create my own formula to track the difference between the hours I'm alloted vs the hours I actually use for independent contract assignments. I need a formula for the following: +3:57 given (3hours 57minutes) - 8:15 used (8hours 15minutes) to get the true result of -4:18 Net hours (-4hours 18 minutes)? I do know that once the minutes of the total time figure exceeds 60 that I have to subtract 60 minutes and add 1 hours to the net time result. Sorry if you get confused.

as this is an Excel forum it's not really the place to ask questions re MS Works

Perhaps the general 'Office' forum might provide more clues http://www.microsoft.com/office/comm...&lang=en&cr=US
