    Importing external data from CSV

    Hi!
I have to import external data from any CSV, but, when i make import, the file is imported with all in one row, and i have to make "text in column" to order every row. Is it possible that a csv is imported without ordering rows, expecially without doing t
"text in column" every time i open a csv?

    Thanks to all

    Alex

    confusing.

A .csv file should open into Excel with no difficulties, each comma signifying a new cell, each row on it's own row.

A Row goes across the page.

A Column goes Down the page.

If your .csv file goes along a row then you need to open the file in Notepad to check if the error is a corrupt .csv or an Excel problem.

If Notepad doesn't show the correct .csv format then refer back to the creating program.

Try the attached .csv, each field should load into it's own cell.

Let me know how you go

    Importing external data from CSV

    Hi!
To show you how is the real problem, i made two print screen of the file you sent me. The first (yourcsv.jpg) is the file opened in my office doing double click, while the second (yourcsv2.jpg) is the file opened after choosing "text in column" from DATA menu. I want that every CSV is opened like the second file, without choosing "text in column".Is it more comprehensive?

    Thanks

    Hi,

you appear to have corrupted your Excel in the .csv area, the file sent should have opened as per picture number two.

    try a small cleanup, viz:

    Close Excel and
Windows 'Start' Button, select 'Run', and type
    excel /unregserver
    then
Windows 'Start' Button, select 'Run', and type
    excel /regserver

Search for a file *.xlb and remove it

Search for a file Personal.xls and rename (to hide) it.

In Excel, check Tools, Options, General and the 'At Startup, open all files in' and clear the folder name if not required.

Then try the .csv file again and let me know how you go.

    Importing external data from CSV

    Hi!

Thanks for the answer. I tried what you told me on many pc with different offices (office 2000 and office xp) but nothing has changed. Anyway, the difference is:

    - in office xp, i didn't found any *.xlb and personal.xls
    - in office 2000 i didn't found personal.xls

in both cases, after the operation, the files reopened as youcsv.jpg i sent you.
Any other idea? I think the problem is the "list separator" that is "," instead ";", but what i don't understand is why in some pc with the same office, the problem doesn't happen?

    Thanks

    Hi,

what language module are you using?

note, the list separator set to ; will cause the problem that you have.

ok - so if your system (Start, Control Panel, Regional & Language, Regional Options, Customize, List separator) is set to , (comma) then your .csv files should open correctly, in each cell and not all into column A.

added, note, it's not the Excel, Tools, Options, International, Number Handling, that's for Amounts, not for .csv
