Smile Link word text to excel

Hi, I've got a Word file with a table containing the following data:

    Date : 12/3/2007

Using copy and Paste Special, Paste Link, I can get the Excel cell to read 12/3/2007.

Fine and dandy!! Save everything OK.

Change date in Word file to 12/3/2008, save, close.

Open Excel file, update links, and I get.....

    12/3/200

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,
    Gavin.

I'm not sure how you do this exactly, so I'm only guessing. Are you only changing the last digit or the entire date?

I've been changing just the lat digit or two, 07 to 08.

However, I would like the whole date to update automatically when the word file has been updated.

Excel help says this is the right way to do it, and the format is recognised as Word, I was just wondering if I had to format the Excel cell in any particular way to get it to work properly.

The format of the cell in Excel should be formatted to Date - dd/mm/yyyy

I thought that was the correct formatting. I've checked, and thats what I have.

So its not the cell formatting.

I'm at a loss to understand the problem.

    Anybody else got any ideas?

    Gavin.
