fixing a mistake on excel sheet- #REF!

Hello, Thanks you for any help you can give- I will do my best to describe the problem. I am using a pre-made workbook- I emailed the company who provided it and they referred me here.

This workbook has an overview sheet then a number of note pages. It's made so that each column of the overview (first sheet of the workbook) corresponds to each one of the the note pages (next 10 sheets in the workbook). When I fill in text in an overview column, it automatically in puts that text in the corresponding note sheet. On the note sheets, the first three columns are locked - this is where the info is automatically entered. Then I can add additional notes beginning in the 4th column.

my issue is that I changed text on the overview page using the cut and paste function and instead of it automatically being changed to match on the corresponding note sheet. Some of the fields show #REF! instead of the new text I typed in the overview sheet. It is all out of whack now. Does anyone know how to fix it?

    Thank so much!

Hi, and welcome to the forum.

I'm sure we can but will need to know the formula in question that's showing #REF.

Better still would you attach the workbook to the forum so that we can see the problem in context? If it's too large to upload, delete most of the rows, or sheets leaving a sample that exhibit the problem, anonymise the data if it's at all sensitive.

Thank you, Richard! I will attach is here so you can see it. If you look at the tab marked "Materials" that is where it for some reason does not correspond to the "overview" sheet. Thanks again

    Hi Pattieayre

You will need to unprotect you 'Materials' tab, from there when you copy the formula from the cell above, and paste onto the one that says #ref, it should do the tick.
The #ref may have happened if you deleted the actual sell that it was liked to on the overview tab (instead of clearing the contents that was in it)

To unprotect goto Tools -> Protection -> unprotect sheet.

    Hope that helps

    Richards and Jovaah,

The solution you suggested of un-protecting the page and copying the formula form another cell worked like a charm

This has been troubling me for days and I was unable to continue working until it was fixed. I am so grateful for your help~ my thanks to you!

    Patti
