    Multiple column widths

I am building an excel page that needs larger column widths at the top but narrower columns at the bottom. How do I do that? It would be to difficult to make many narrow columns throughout the page and merge the cells at the top - that would take hours - there must be an easier way.

    thanks

    HI,

why would you need to merge the cells at the top, with a selection (say B2:E2), does Format Cells, Alignment, Horizontal, Centre Across Selection cover what you want to display?

added, note, you can set the first row that way, then formula fill the format across the remaining required rows.

I don't think that will help - if I understand you.
I have a page that has a 'chart' at the top with varing column widths: 5.0; 8.83; 27; 27; 6. - (it runs for ~ 27 rows) - that is the top portion of the page. On the bottom I need several columns with different widths - say something like: 5; 5; 5; 14; 14; 8; 8; then 5 that run for approx 10 rows. I have 'built' the top portion, now I'm tring to 'build' the bottom without changing the top.

so long as your designs are in blocks, that should be simple.

Decide on what columns will meet the requirement of each section.

Merge cells for one row at the top of each section, then select that row and formula fill the format to the other rows in the section.

repeat for the second and subsequent sections.

however, note that the first step was:
Decide on what columns will meet the requirement of each section.
before starting to merge any cells.

added note, if you need to change the top just change the first row required, then formula-fill the change through the other required rows.

This is exactly the question that I came here to have answered. What I was hoping for was some kind of "Insert Section Break" which would allow you to completely resize the columns in the new section independent of the column sizes of any other sections.

I gather this is impossible. Right?
