    Problem with Sorting

Sometimes when I sort alphabetically with the first column, the entire line does not go with it. So, what happens is that I have the first column sorted, but column 5 or 6 stayed where it was which messes up the whole spreadsheet. Why does this happen and how can I avoid the row getting split? Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!

The problem is most likely that you have blank columns between A and E, and you're only selecting column A when you want to sort the data.

If columns B through E had data, when you sort column A it would either automatically sort all columns, or at least prompt you to expand your selection range to include any adjoining data.

The quick way to make sure all your data is sorted is to either select the whole sheet (use the 'button' above the 1 in the Row headers, and just left of the A in the Column headers to do this). You can then sort by any column (or row, if sorting left to right) and the other data will move along with.

If you don't want to sort your entire sheet, due to multiple table ranges or data layout, be sure to select the columns or range of cells that you do want to sort first.
