    Paste Special command

I have a spreadsheet that requires me to use the paste special command and select VALUES, however, I just opened the sheet and when i use paste special I get a different second window. It asks for paste as unicode text or text. What happened to the other window that used to come up?? How can I get it back??

I only get the Paste As window (with Text, Unicode Text, HTMl, etc.) that you're seeing when I try to copy and paste text from another window or application into Excel.

When I copy a cell or range of cells in a worksheet, and choose Edit > PasteSpecial, the proper window appears.

I get the same unicode or text options whether I right click and paste special or use the edit command. It didn't use to be this way. What made it change? I really need it to give me the paste special options (values, etc..)

I've noticed that if I go to paste special by rightclicking I get the box that only has paste as text, unicode or html. If I get to the box through the edit menu I get the one with everything on it. Not sure if this is what you're looking for or not but hope it helps.

    Ok, to clarify:

If you copy a cell or range of cells from within the same Excel.exe session - from any worksheet or workbook, and then either right-click > PasteSpecial or Edit > PasteSpecial, you will get the desired box that shows Values, Formats, Multiply, Transpose, etc.

However, if you copy text from a source outside of Excel and then try to PasteSpecial (either method) into Excel, you will get the Paste As.. Text, HTML, etc. box.

Also: If you have two separate EXCEL.EXE's running, with a workbook open in each, and you try to copy from one and PasteSpecial into the other, you will get the Paste As window. Make sure your workbooks are opened from the same Excel.exe and not separate exe's. (You can check Task Manager to see if two are running.)
