Extra lines added to non .xls files when opened in Excel

My boss just gave me a macro that we've used here for renaming files based on their contents. The files that we open are generally .blg and not the standard .xls files. The .blg is a file that only contains text. The macro worked up until a few weeks ago. The reason that it doesn't work right now is because when the vba macro opens the .blg file, it adds an extra row in between each actual row from the .blg file. How do I reset Excel so that these extra rows don't appear?

    Hello Marcs,

It would help to know what system you are using, Windows 2000, Windows NT, or Windows XP. Microsoft has identified quite a few problems relating to binary log files (.blg) on these various platforms. I haven't come across anything like what you are describing. I would investigate what changes have been made in the last week or so. Things like installation of system service packs, software upgrades, etc.

    Sincerely,
    Leith Ross

I'm using Windows XP. My boss thinks that the problem relates to opening a .csv file in Excel, because since he has done that the extra lines have been added.

Turns out it was a problem with the set of .blg files that were sent to us and just a coincidence that it occurred after we opened a .csv file.
