    VLOOKUP Problem

I have a supplier's excel formatted inventory pricelist with item numbers that are strictly numerical and others that are alphanumerica (eg-MMM654SSY) after the manufacturer's code(the first three letters which would be MMM in the above example). My Vlookup function operates perfectly for the item numbers that are strictly numerical but will not read the item numbers that are alphanumerical. I only have this problem in one supplier's price list. What am I missing that the alphanumerical item numbers don't function on the VLOOKUP function. Thanks for any assiatance or insight that you can render.

questions that come to mind are if the list is in ascending order (if not add the 4th arguement "false" to the vlookup function. Also, are you sure there are not hidden spaces in the alphanumerics - try using the trim function in the vlookup.
not a professional, just trying to assist.....
