    =now()

    Hi,

    I was looking for some help on excel.

    Would really appreciate if you could help me with the following formula.

    =now()

    I am tracking the behaviour of my team in an excel sheet. Instead of manually typing the date and time, I am using this command. However when I open the worksheet the next day. The date and time is current.

    Wanted to know if there is anything else that I need to put in to keep the original date and time when an incident happen.

    Regards,
    Sajjad

    Instead of using the NOW function, use CTRL + ; for the current date and CTRL + Shift + ; for the current time.

    Try these

    Current date: Press CTRL+SEMICOLON
    Current time: Press CTRL+SHIFT+ SEMICOLON
    Current date and time: Press CTRL+ SEMICOLON then SPACE then CTRL+SHIFT+ SEMICOLON

    Thanks guys,

    When I use the commands...it displays the current date and time...

    however, when I take the cursor and highlight the cell...it doesn't show any formula..

    The concern here...if I have to pull the excel sheet and show it to someone that you have demonstrated this behaviour on a particular date & time, they might not belive it because the cell contents no formula. It contains the date and time, which can be entered anyday.

    I hope I am making sense :-)

    Regards,
    Sajjad

    I don't know what to tell you, Sajjad. I don't know how a cell with a formula can be any more credible than a cell with the date and time inserted into it. I don't know of a worksheet function that will insert the current date and time, and not change it the next time the workbook is open.

    You can not do it with a formula

    You need to manually enter the date/time manually as per jasoncw reply or use a worksheet change macro

    For the macro option have a look at my last reply in this thread
