Count Months Between Dates

I need a formula to count the number of moths between two dates. I tried formatting the dates as numbers and then subtrating them and then formatting the results as mm (with the custum format), but that only works if the dates are in the same year.

on the Microsoft website. It returns "1 years, 1 months, 1 days" for the difference between 10/16/05 and 10/15/04 which is great, but what I need is something that will return "13".

That last thing that I tried is =DATEDIF(start_date,end_date,unit) with the unit as M and it returned "01".

If your two dates are in A1 and B1,

=ROUND((B1-A1)/30.4,0) formatted as "general" will return the number of months
