Problems with graphs if not updated daily

    Hi!

I use a spreadsheet to keep track of how much I run every week. Every day I enter how much I have ran and then I plot that (distance vs. date). Nothing strange about that. All looks great if you do this regularly. The curve looks really nice. But what can I do if I have been away for a week?

All I want is for the actual entries to be plotted. If I take a break for a few days excel draws a straight line to the next entry. I did this with a mutual fund a while back, then went on a 4 week vacation. The curve looked crazy with that straight line.

Is there anything I can do to avoid this?

    E.g.

    10 May 5 miles
    11 May 6 miles
    12 May 4 miles
    4 June 5 miles
    5 June 4 miles

The problem occurs between 12 May and 4 June...

Thanks in advance for any help anyone can give me!

Thanks! Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be that easy. I have tried that too. Unfortunately there are no hidden cells between the days.

Imagine I enter something for every day in January, February and then do nothing until December. I get a nice plot for the first few months, then a big space between the months proportional to the number of months omitted before I get a nice set of dots for December. Everything in between becomes a flat line connecting February's last and December's first.

Your link was interesting but there is that problem that there are no empty cells. Got any other ideas???
