May be this link can help, or the alternative is to upgrade to 2007 for over a million rows

    excel max number of rows

Thank you for your prompt answer !
    I tried your suggestions but:
-the macro was only for text files
-the software that imports the data from the Excel file to an Access file does not accept Excel 2007 files ( I did try)

I need to import the data from a Access file to RentHIstory.xls without
changing any fields on the Excel file.(see attached)
The problem is that the Excel file has only 65000 rows and the Access file has
over 250000, so I was thinking that having more then one sheet on the Excel file will help but I didn't manage to have a macro that will direct the import from one sheet to the other in the file RentHistory.
    Thank you all in advance.

    Hi

The following is pretty clunky but will at least get you the data.

Make sure that your output file has sufficient sheets to house the data (I've used 65000 rows as the cut off point), you are on the first sheet and then run. You will have to adjust the selection criteria and the output criteria to suit.

This will select all the data from a database called c:\temp\test3.mdb, a table called access_table2. This table has 3 columns (expand to suit) that will be output starting in A2.

    Dear rylo,

The acces file is too big to attach.
I attached only the excel file.Looks like this with other 280000 rows

TAPE_ID TAPECOPY CUSTOMER_ID RENTDATE RETURNDATE RETURNED
    16241 1 645 04/06/2006 06/06/2006 Yes
    16076 2 1202 06/06/2006 08/06/2006 Yes
    16474 9 621 03/06/2006 05/06/2006 Yes
    11651 4 1263 04/06/2006 06/06/2006 Yes

How can I send you the other file?Is it neccesary?

Have you tried the code(s) I put up for you? If so, how did they go?

    Dear rylo,

1.I followed your instructions renaming test3.mdb with the database file where I need to import too and access_table 2 with the file where I need to import from.
I run the macros in test3.mdb and I got the following message

    Compile error:
    Sub or Function defined

2.I need also to ask you few more questions:
-how can I delete in the big access data base for e.g from row 66000 to row120000
-I need a macros to copy from an Excel2003 file to access2003 some fields.for e.g

    excel file

    REFERENCE COLOUR
    10000 red
    10001 bleu
    10002 yellow

    access file

    REFERENCE COLOUR
    10000
    10000.02
    10001
    10001.02
    10001.03
    10002
    10002.02
    10002.03

As seen above I need the colour name to be pasted to the field COLOUR in the access data base the same for all references that start with the same first number until the point (see below)

    REFERENCE COLOUR
    10000 red
    10000.02 red
    10001 blue
    10001.02 blue
    10001.03 blue
    10002 yellow
    10002.02 yellow
    10002.03 yellow

I want to thank you again for your efforts. If you ever come to Cyprus you have to visit me.
I wish I knew as much as you do!

    Thank you
