    Custom Format question....

Hi - I'm trying to create a custom format that will allow 3 text characters (varying data....not always the same 3 characters) at the beginning followed by 7 numeric characters which also include a hypen and parentheses. Example ABC-1234(222)

I've experimented with several custom formats like @-####(###) but can't get any to work just right.

    Any suggestions?

    Thank you.

Do you mean that the actual value includes the "ABC"? This would make the value text, you can't custom format text.

If the cell value is a number, e.g. 1234222

then you can make it look like ABC-1234(222)

    by cusom formatting as

    "ABC-"0000(000)

    Custom Format question

The first three characters (which are text) will vary. Will always be three characters, but the actual values will vary.

I figured out how to do this if it always is the same (like you suggested).

Was really hoping there was some placeholder input mask symbol that would allow varying text characters to be entered.

Thank you daddylonglegs for your reply.

    Regards.
