Building on a basic formula

Hi guys, im having trouble on building on a formula from a different cell. For example, in cell C1 i have (=A1-A2). Simple enough. Now in cell D1 i would like to move that simple formula across and put something on it that added 1 to each column to make it (=B1-B2) Is there anyway to achieve this? i need to edit the formula and addone to each column as the gap is not always consistant, but always is one more than the previous cell. Just copy the formula from C1 and paste in D1.
